EVENT DETAILS

Its official, 2015 will see the return of the Deus Boundless Enthusiasm Bike Build Off and the 3rd of May is the date to mark a big red cross on the calendar. Round the world, on one weekend in May five continents will gather the masses together to celebrate the challenge of the Bike Build off – to make the most with the least.

In 2013 we staged the first global edition of the Build Off with Deus flagships on four continents simultaneously hosting the cornucopia of creativity.

This year we add another location to the mix with Deus Tokyo taking the game up a notch. The top five bikes from each region will go into the People’s Choice voting.

Dust off the Whitworths and sign up for updates, we’ll keep you posted with all details and release official entry forms in the coming weeks.

1ST

Marco Troiano

1982 Yamaha SR250

Milan/Italy

Marco looked at the 1982 Yamaha Sr250 and rolled up his sleeves. He started modifying thoroughly, shortening it and using a unique rear suspension scheme, with a single shock working in reverse, when in traction instead of in compression. The rear 16” tyre is beautifully and really unusual, being nothing less than a tractor’s front wheel. Genial. And the tank is straight from a 70’s 50cc motorcycle but Marco doesn’t even remember where he got it from, the fairing and fairing’s frame are homemade.

2ND

Kedux

1980 Kawasaki Binter Mercy

Bali/Indonesia

Every fan of custom bikes in Bali knows Kedux. Many of his bike builds take on a life after leaving his garage. Becoming champions at various regional custom fests across Indonesia. Kedux started his carrier as a builder in the Harley workshop, it was there that he learnt to wrench but it was also there that he honed his mad skills at pin striping using brushes that he hand makes. His magnificent 1980 Kawasaki Binter Mercy took out 1st place as it exemplified the main criteria, building the most with the least

3RD

Josh Deardorff

1982 Honda CX500

Venice/America

Josh rode his $350 1982 Honda CX500 one thousand miles down to Venice from Portland, Oregon. The completed bike is a mixture of 9 different bikes found at his local salvage yard and used parts from eBay and fabricated from scratch, or adapted to function where they originally were not meant to belong. The rear section is completely custom fabricated and the front and rear suspension are off a CBR600rr. Josh had previous experience working with metal, but this is his first motorcycle build so everything was a learning process. Josh documented the build progress on his Instagram (@josh_aft) and under the tag #thisiswhathappenswhenyoubuyamotorcyclefor350dollars

EVENT LOCATIONS

Sydney

BONDI PAVILION, BONDI, NSW AUSTRALIA

The stage was set: Sydney’s iconic Bondi Pavilion would host the plethora of entrants for the 2015 Deus Bike Build Off. Despite a weeks worth of rain leading up to the event 37 builders braved the weather and came from far and wide.

EVENT INFORMATION

As each creation appeared the lack of sunshine was of no concern as hearts were lifted by the quality and diversity of machinery. There was a clear sense of community amongst the builders despite the incredible distances some travelled. From carpark to makeshift photo studio, all the entrants were shot then moved to the tiered crescent of harmonium that is the Pavillion ampetheatre.

Bali

THE TEMPLE OF ENTHUSIASM

The sun was playing chase with the clouds over Bali that first Sunday in May. A day on many a motorcyclists calendar. The start of the mad month of Motorcyclery. The day the Deus Bike Build Off 2015 happened in five locations worldwide.

EVENT INFORMATION

Custom bikes began filtering in early through the long shadows and it wasn’t long after the sun had began it’s climb that the parking lot burst and people were pouring out along the street we front. You see builders in Bali never come alone. They have extended families and more than a few friends. People flowed forth not only from Canggu. But from Denpasar, Karangasem, and even Ubud and beyond.

THE EMPORIUM OF POSTMODERN ACTIVITIES

The machines that entered the LA chapter of the global Boundless Enthusiasm Bike Build Off were the result of a compelling mixture of ingenuity, absurdity, engineering, craftsmanship, and the love of riding motorcycles.

EVENT INFORMATION

Thirty builders with their wild and wonderful motorcycles arrived to the Emporium Of Postmodern Activities bright and early Sunday morning to share their creations and tell great tales of the process.

THE PORTAL OF POSSIBILITIES

The Boundless Enthusiasm Bike Build Off 2015, Milano edition, had a great start the evening before the event in Deus Theatre with a friend and families amazing dinner to warm up the team and have fun with the outstanding judges panel: Paola Furlan of Motocicliste.net, Gary Inman of Sideburn magazine, Vincent Prat of Southsiders MC and Wheels and Waves event, Fabrice Rox of Moto Hero magazine, Roberto Ungaro of Rider magazine.

EVENT INFORMATION

The evening became night and “in Wine Veritas” we celebrate the prologue of the coming Deus BBO2015, some of us slept directly on the table for a couple of hour and then wake up to set up the scene.
