1000 Miles To Jackson
One year ago, a couple of guys from the Emporium of Postmodern Activities turned over their first “Iron Butt” — riding one thousand miles in one day, heading to #BoltsBday4.
For the past 5 years, our good buddies from Salt Lake City, Bolts Action, have been doing a camping trip to celebrate the livelihood of Bolts and to get out for a breath of fresh air. A tight group of high-octane adrenaline aficionados that go higher, faster, and farther than anyone you’ve every met, these boys are true mountain folk and its always a good time of cliff jumping, skate boarding, camp fire yakk’n, and all sorts of wholesome tomfoolery.
After cutting the week short at the office the boys set forth at 6:30pm Thursday evening from Venice and high-tailed it to Salt Lake City to meet up with the Bolts crew and Friends at 7am on Friday. While the nation slept, the Harley FXR and Buell X1 went zoom, crushing highway 15 like a teenager’s heart. 700 miles down, 300 to go. The camp destination was in Grand Teton National Park near Jackson, Wyoming, and the ride from SLC was a great run filled with mountain passes, full-tilt cruising, hearty pit stops, law enforcement run-ins, and water dips. Approaching the 24 hour time constraint with the onset of fatigue and body aches, the last 100 miles was where they really started to feel the “iron butt”. The trip odometers clocked a grand as they rolled to the base of the Grand Tetons, a fitting place it seemed. Nothing beats a set of tetons at the end of a hard ride.
This week they’re heading back up for #BoltsBday5. Have another fun trip guys! …and try not to get pulled over by Afton’s finest!
