Woolie’s Workshop + BMW Group Design
To provide you with a small taste of the great things to come at The Emporium of Postmodern Activities, we turn to the amazing adventures of the man behind Woolie’s Workshop. Last week, after receiving a formal invitation, Woolie led Deus Ex Machina’s corps d’elite to the German state of Bavaria for a day-long meeting at BMW’s Headquarters in Munich to discuss the building of custom motorcycles with top-ranking officials of the BMW Group Design department. In attendance were Ola Stenegärd, who designed BMW’s HP2 and S1000RR models; Ola’s boss, Edgar Heinrich, who led the design for the R1150GS and R1200GS; and the big boss, the man who oversees it all, the Michelangelo of car design, Director of BMW Group Design, Adrian van Hooydonk—all gathered at the same place on the same day to talk with Deus Ex Machina US Motorcycle Design Director, Michael Woolaway, about his next project.
The day’s itinerary was ambitious. There were presentations of inspirational sketches, test rides of new model motorcycles, tours of factory design studios and employee after hours workshops. Meals were eaten, ideas were exchanged, and laughs were had— all in the indelible spirit of enthusiasm upon which Deus Ex Machina thrives. And at some point during this great day, in this great spirit of enthusiasm, an agreement was made. So it gives us great pleasure to announce that BMW Motorrad will be sponsoring the next custom build to come out of Woolie’s Workshop.
Prepare to be amazed.
