Detroit Bike city.
With a backdrop, more a feeling than a sound, American iron was moving last Wednesday night when Deus had their first Detroit Bike Night on July 24. Housed in the old Willys-Overland Jeep plant, the Deus Pop-up shop hosted the event on the Canfield block off Cass Street in Detroit. It was a dream-like summer evening with clear skies, good company, motorcycles, hot rods, bicycles, and pedestrians showing up to just hang out and look at the machines that showed up that night.
Highlighting the idea of makers and builders, Deus flew in Michael Woolaway (Woolie), the Deus Motorcycle Design Director to do a workshop on his design and build process. Lots of great information was shared and questions lasted for an hour. During the event we had our local screenprinter making a one time run of 100 “Deus does Detroit” posters by Carby.
The whole block joined in with Jack White’s 3rd Man Records providing music, Motor City Brewing, Jolly Pumpkin, and Traffic Jam providing food and drink, and the stores staying open late. Detroit has a short summer and so the first shipment of our new fall / winter clothing was up for sale as well.
There was a great selection of one-off machines displayed and provided in part by our friends at Ducati Detroit, Jack Pine Cycle, Clutch & Throttle, Ashe Supply Co., Jeff Buick, Bella Corse Cycles, The Berlin Biker and others. We had many core members of the Detroit motorcycle culture come out such as the Detroit Dahlias, the Berlin Biker as well as auto designers and many people working in the advertising and branding industry as well as just a lot of the Detroiters interested in anyone helping this city continue its comeback.
We will be having another event coming soon, to premier “Death Rides a Horse” with potentially a custom car event held in conjunction with that. More details to follow!
