Grown for Deus
Handmade by Andrew Wells at Grown Surfboards in Lennox Heads these Grown for Deus bodysurfing hand planes have a unique providence.
Each hand plane is formed using both sustainably grown paulownia timber from Coffs Harbour and 120 year old reclaimed Cedar from early 19th century terrace hames built in the famous Rocks area of Sydney. A laminated blank is formed using both Cedar and Paulownia boards, carefully cut and shaped into both pintail and fish style planes.
keeping with the ‘green’ theme it is then coated with Entropy Bio Resin derived from pinesap and gently rubbed back to give the timbers the natural look they deserve. Straps are added using stainless screws and Tallowwood blocks.
Now that we’ve given you all the technical mumbo jumbo, here’s the straight dope in the new palm cruisers fresh on the show room floor here at The Temple. Hand planes are mad fun in the shore pound or any other wave you find your self on. You don’t need to be a pro to get deeply slotted in the barrel and El rollo’s are way cooler with a hand plane than on a boogie board (no offence, it’s the truth). Just look at it this way we’ve all played with wood in our hands for many years, now we can do it at the beach and not get arrested…
