The Deus 9′ & Single Festival – Day 3

Posted 5 years ago by Deus Indonesia

Saturday morning saw the first rounds of the world renowned Deus 9’ & Single Longboard division in extremely wild weather and surf. Spectators watched as man after man tried their luck on the hectic river mouth right-hander. It was a first for us here, to have the right not absolutely perfect for the 9’ & Single, but it’s not as if it wasn’t contestable, it just wasn’t easy. As in the Womp Comp, there were a group of surfers who rose to the occasion and made it look like a cakewalk. Tyler Warren suprised us all by making a number of helicopter manoeuvres look smooth, while Tom Schuler, a surfer from Alexandra Headland in Australia, took the wave of the day after successfully navigating a hollow and deep tube. By the end of the day 8 semi finalists remained and our head judge decided to leave the dirty river mouth to settle down for the day. “The sun will come out tomorrow.”

This being the 3rd hectic day by the beach, contestants and spectators alike fled home for a well-deserved nap before returning once again to the Temple of Enthusiasm. Saturday night was all about the world premiere of Harrison Roach’s first surf film, SALVAGED. We’ll get you more info on that as the film makes its online premiere later this week.

A huge thankyou to the sponsors of the Deus 9’ & Single.

See the film from the event here.

Bintang, Sailor Jerry, Frii Hotel, San Miguel, Plaga Wines, Redbull.
