When Marie (and Matt) came to Malibu
When you hear reports of a hurricane off the Baja coastline you can only dream of a swell like the one hurricane Marie produced.
After tracking north, I twisted the throttle south from Portland to greet it. This storm pushed swell into just about every nook and cranny along the Southern California coast. I had never witnessed a swell like this hit the West Coast before, so I went to the always and forever faithful Surfrider Beach in Malibu. In between dodging the double overhead sets riddled with Kooks and somehow managing to snag a couple for myself, I took a moment to shoot a few photos on my trusty and dusty old 35mm camera. In the process, capturing some amazing waves, clean up sets that smashed apart the historic pier, and local wave killer Mr. Allen Sarlo shooting it.
