Z900RS Build Two – Entry One
Kawasaki Managing Director, Ken Ashiba, is a massive fanboy of the original Mad Max and Jim Gooses KZ1000 Kwaka. So it’s a given that we were asked to build a modern day interpretation of this motorcycle using the new Z900RS.
I already had the bike in the workshop and I firstly ordered a replica of the fairing, the screen and the tail unit from Air Tech USA.
I placed the fairing in front of the Z so I could see the size and proportions, there was a fair few mods and brackets to make but I knew that it would work. I pulled out my notepad and put pen to paper.
I started with the main piece of the fairing. An SR fairing mount was modified and welded to the steering column. The skirt was quite out of shape and needed a few tweaks to hug the engine tightly. The tail unit was too small at the front and the lines weren’t matching the frame. I tried many options in my head and the best that came to mind was to utilize the stock seat and adjust the tail unit to fit around it. Lines were drawn and the new shape was formed after a little bit of modifying was done to the frame. I had our Deus rendering on paper as a guide but the challenge thing was to make what was on paper into reality.
