This is the story of an experience that was originated from the passion for cycling, the story of an adventure that lives on enthusiasm and sharing.
Lorenzo comes from Milan, he is just over twenty years old and studied architecture. His love for cycling was born almost by accident, very often great loves are born by accident, when you expect them the least, those are the ones that allow you to find "a way out" from life’s struggles. He chose the bike and the bike chose him and they started a path of growth and knowledge that very soon became for him a life path.
Lorenzo was able to proof his passion for cycling in his job, and became Messenger in a recently founded company in Milan. He picks up and delivers packages of all types throughout the city and very often he stops by Deus Cycleworks.
And while in Italy the traffic jam affects the freeways for the annual summer break in August, Lorenzo tells us abouthis journey ...
The Messenger has founded an international community, very active and full of initiatives, the most important and most heartfelt was the CYCLE. MESS. WORLD. CHAMP. the World Championship of Messenger, this year held in Paris.
Lorenzo and four friends / colleagues left Milan by plane and reached Copenhagen, where for four days they participated to the European Championships. They slept in a self-managed gym and from morning till night they have joined different types of competitions, balance, speed and resistance to test their skills as cyclists.
At the end of the European Championships, they jumped back on their vehicles and toured Denmark, passing over the long and spectacular Danish bridges that connect islands with mainland, camping in the woods, mounting hammocks in vertiginous viewpoints to enjoy the nature and peace from unique places.
As in every adventure, recklessness attitude and spirit of adaptation are crucial, that’s why even wash themselves for days in the ocean had its undeniable charm.
A ferry brought them to Cologne, Germany, where a large group of Messengers from all over the world met up to reach together Paris, their final stop. A hundred kilometers a day, full of activities, such as time trial to make the transfer entertaining and motivating, with short nights camping with bonfires lights.
And then Paris for the real event: THE MAIN RACE. A ring circuit there, closed to traffic, spotted with pick-up and drop-off points, where the participants had to complete 20 withdrawals and 20 deliveries as fast as possible.
After this experience, the most important thing is to be there and to give the best because this is not just a simple competition, but a meeting place that gives the chance to share the same passion and the same attitude. Those werebusy days where folks from all over the world met and spoke the same language.
We decided to follow Lorenzo also in his next challenge, the Italian Championships Messenger, we decided to tell his story to highlight the value underneath passions and to try to share the emotions that only cycling can give.
Questa è la storia di un’esperienza che nasce dalla grande passione per la bicicletta, è la storia di un’avventura che si nutre di entusiasmo e condivisione.
Lorenzo è un ragazzo di Milano, ha poco più di vent’anni e studia architettura. Il suo amore per la bicicletta è nato quasi per caso, perché molto spesso i grandi amori nascono per caso, quando meno te lo aspetti e sono quelli che ti permettono di trovare “una via di fuga” in un momento della vita poco felice. Ha scelto la bici e la bici ha scelto lui, ed hanno iniziato insieme un percorso di crescita e conoscenza che molto presto si è trasformato in percorso di vita.
Lorenzo ha potuto declinare la sua passione per la bici nella sua professione, ed è diventato Messenger in una giovane azienda milanese. Si occupa di ritirare e consegnare pacchi di ogni tipo in tutta la città e molto spesso nei suoi giri di ricognizione si ferma in Deus Cycleworks.
E mentre i bollettini del mese di agosto decretano le solite code chilometriche del rientro lungo la nostra penisola, Lorenzo ci racconta del suo viaggio…
I Messenger hanno creato una comunità internazionale, molto attiva e ricca di iniziative, quella più importante e più sentita è il CYCLE. MESS. WORLD. CHAMP. il Campionato del Mondo dei Messenger, quest’anno a Parigi.
Lorenzo ed altri quattro amici/colleghi sono partiti da Milano ed in aereo hanno raggiunto Chopenagen, dove per quattro giorni hanno partecipato ai Campionati Europei. Hanno dormito in una palestra autogestita e dal mattino fino alla sera hanno partecipato a competizioni di vario tipo, di equilibrio, velocità, resistenza che hanno messo alla prova le abilità dei ciclisti.
Conclusi gli Europei sono saliti in sella ai loro mezzi ed hanno attraversato la Danimarca, passando sopra i lunghi e spettacolari ponti danesi che collegano tra loro le innumerevoli isole del paese, campeggiando nei boschi ma più spesso montando amache in punti vertiginosi, per godersi lo spettacolo e la pace da un punto di vista unico.
Come in tutte le avventure non può mancare un pizzico di incoscienza e lo spirito di adattamento altissimo, per questo motivo anche lavarsi per giorni nell’oceano ha avuto il suo fascino innegabile.
Un traghetto li ha portati in Germania, a Colonia, dove un foltissimo gruppo di Messenger proveniente da tutto il mondo si era dato appuntamento per raggiungere insieme la destinazione ultima, Parigi. Un centinaio di chilometri al giorno, pieno di diversivi, come tratti a cronometro, per rendere più divertenti e motivanti i trasferimenti, brevi notti in campeggio con le luci dei falò.
E poi Parigi. Qui si è svolto il vero evento THE MAIN RACE, un circuito chiuso, chiuso al traffico, costellato da punti di ritiro e consegna, dove i partecipanti dovevano portare a termine nel minor tempo possibile, 20 ritiri e 20 consegne.
E quando finisce tutto, la cosa più importanti è esserci stati ed avere dato il meglio perché questa non è solo una semplice competizione, ma un ritrovo, un momento di condivisione della stessa passione e con lo stesso spirito. Sono stati giorni intensi dove ragazzi di tutto il mondo si sono trovati e ritrovati, e dove nonostante tutto si è parlata la stessa lingua.
Abbiamo deciso di seguire Lorenzo anche nella sua prossima sfida, i Campionati Italiani di Messenger, abbiamo deciso di raccontare la sua storia per sottolineare il valore che hanno tutte le passioni e per cercare di far rivivere le emozioni che solo la bicicletta può dare.
